Just have to agree that he was a friendly fellow to have at the post office. Perhaps he can become a contractor in retirement and go to places where everybody seems grumpy (like some DMV's or Social Security offices)!

I loved the jokes, the smile, the friendship. Thank you Darrell. Always offering me "today's special price" on two for double the price of one. I wonder if you know the impact you've made on our community. You will be missed at the post office. Patty Wicken

Such a pleasure to have someone serving the public who not only enjoyed his job but made for great customer service AND a wonderful atmosphere for those few minutes in the post office. Enjoy your retirement!

Every time I mailed a package to Alaska you offered to hand deliver it. I hope you finally get to take that trip to Alaska! Enjoy your retirement

OK I really don't know what the fuss is all about. I've heard his jokes longer than 26 years and the only person that laughed at them was him. The bigger question will be who is going to fill the "Suggestion Box", now at the Post Office? Seriously, Alexandria is going to feel the impact of Darrel's retirement, similarily as if Big Ole was taken down. He was an icon at the Post Office and the area as a whole and is a truly wonderful person and uncle! Now let me know when the RV is warmed up, so I can come with!
