I'd presume the county already has a law banning free running animals as well or at least ones that become nuisances. The info you posted would have been helpful to add in the letter supporting his case. Thanks for the added facts.

As an aside, Due to the inconsistancy of animal control regulations my wife and I recently had to make the decision to NOT call for help for an injured dog spotted hobbling through the field near our house. It is my township's protocol to shoot first and ask questions later. Admittedly, this issue is not about animal control, but helping to fund a spay/neuter program that may minimize the need for dealing with strays.

Glenn, Alex Township currently has an Animal Control ordinance. They are already paying dearly for trying to address this issue. I believe Mr. Ross is asking that the County help provide some consistancy in the area. I believe the cost of animal control around here is borne mainly by three communities. The City of Alex, Alex Township, and LaGrande Township. I know that there have been cases where people in adjacent townships have either dropped off stay animals in these responsible townships, or simply claim they "found" that dog in one of those communities "on their way home". By the way, Do the townships have the same taxing authority that the county does?

Mr. Ross: Have you proposed that your township provide the $1 per township resident as part of this and will you do so if the county chooses or is unable to offer the roughly $36k ($1/per resident) requested?
