LOL - Im not racists. Im just mentioning that since we have had tons of diversity from different areas of the state, world ect in the last few years the crime has really skyrocketed. Ive been here 30 yrs and my husband states this is now mini mpls or mini st cloud. Alexandria is very inviting and it seems we have welcomed all of this crime with open arms. In the police blotter weekly people are constantly having their vehicles rummaged through (LOCK YOUR CARS) or their items stolen from their yards (PUT YOUR STUFF AWAY) All of us can help prevent unwanted crime by protecting ourselves and taking a few moments to lock up and secure our belongings. Crime is taking over this town and I have even heard alot of people mention moving.

IMO, this should be a wakeup call to any place that runs a limited staff at closing time. There should be at least two people, for personal safety reasons. Develop a closing plan that requires employees to first secure the building then continue cleaning, etc. Work with the police to develop a strategy on what to do in the event that there is a confrontation of this sort. Teach employees how to deal with it. How to document incidents or notice strange behavior. Minimize how much money is directly accessible, or consider installing deposit type safes where the funds can't be accessed by anyone but management. The less there is to steal, the less likely that a place will be targeted. Make it OBVIOUS that managment is serious about eliminating the chances of being robbed. I never thought that I would hear of armed robbery happening In Alex, but anything is possible anywhere. Business owners, managers and employees can do a lot to minimize being "cased" as a good place to rob. It's easier to appear less appealing to a criminal if there are certain processes and actions, along with some equipment to make it a higher risk for them to even try to rob an establishment.

Cultural Diversity. You're right. We just had two armed robberies by (a) white suspect(s), and one robbery by a black suspect. I suppose you could call that diverse.

I believe we have finally achieved the "cultural diversity" of which I had earlier been chastised for speaking out against. It didn't take as long as I had thought. Good work guys! (Locks doors, shaking head.)

Alexandria is starting to remind me of Minneapolis/St. Paul, sadly. Doesn't these robbers have a job? Get a job and man up. We definitely need more security in this town, especially at night (before closing)!

Omg - A man from echopress just emailed to let me know that they did not catch the man who robbed papa murphys. So I want to retract that part of my previous post. Rumor around town was that a 16 yr old had confessed to the papa murphys robery and was being charged. I guess that just shows not to even trust a rumor. Please forgive me for that incorrect statement.
