Randy O - Why would you assume that wealthy people may have been clogging up the parking lots? Sounds to me like you have a chip on your shoulder. The subsidies must not be lucrative enough.

Boredom - something to do to get out of the house for a while. Half-off something I didn't know I needed until I saw it in the ad. Hoping that waiting until later in the morning would allow me to avoid the rabid door-busting serious shoppers.

K-Mart isn't out trying to eat everyone's lunch like Wal-Mart is.

Kerry - I thought you were an educated man - what were you thinking going to Wal-Mart on Black Friday??

I was at Fleet Farm at about 8:30 and KMart right after that. Fleet Farm was great. Calm, ordered parking lot. No lines. Polite people. I found what I went there for and got done quickly. KMart had some issues. Someone in the parking lot, hoping to get a spot next to the door, put their white minivan in reverse and stepped on the gas, backing up about 40 feet right near many pedestrians. Next, as two people parked on opposite sides of the aisle wanted to leave at the same time, they reversed without looking and almost had a collision. Fortunately, one noticed the other and hit the brakes. Then, inside, after finding what I was looking for (the last one!), I got in line ... and boy what a line it was! Every register had a line of about 8 customers. That was enough for me as I went home and took the dog for a long walk.

I don't know how the morning crowds were, as I had to work. I was at Herberger's at 12:45 and it was chaos! Herberger's "hot buys" were supposed to end at 1 p.m., however, they extended the time to 2 p.m. due to amount of customers trying to make their way through the store and the long check out lines. The sales clerks on the floor were VERY helpful to me in helping me find the 2 items I had come in for. Props to Herberger's for their customer service and for extending the sale time!

From reports I received, the Black Friday experience in Alexandria was pandemonium - hopefully there weren't too many wealthy people out clogging up the parking lots and shopping lines. What'll they do with that extra $$ they saved? Last I checked, you can't take your $$ to heaven.
