I have a police scanner on 24-7 at work and home and from what I hear all that alexandria does in a homeless persons emergency is put them up for a night or two at a hotel and then give them a bus ticket out of here. HOW SAD. Are the homeless better off commiting crimes on the streets here in alexandria so that they go to jail and have 3 hots and a cot? At least then they have a roof and a bunch of hot meals and maybe a shower. A few years ago there was a gentleman in the alexandria area that was homeless and did just as I stated and committed a crime to get put in jail in douglas county. He got a 60 or 90 day sentance and the day of his release he still didnt have his plans or life together. He begged the jail to stay and they refused stating they cant hold him there for no reason. So he walked outside to get fresh air - found a brick and threw it through the main jail doors and then they rearrested him 10 min later and rebooked him. It bought him another few months of a home. Very sad but also very very true. Im not saying he was right or wrong but some people dont have anything in life. I try to help anyway that I can when I see people who need it. I am a firm believer in doing unto others as you would want done unto you. Ever heard of paying it forward?

Bottom line - Alexandria needs a shelter or needs to help more. Instead of all the rediculous things they waste money on - how about putting it where people need it most. I donate to the food shelf all the time and everytime I go donate I see bare shelves. I encourage anyone who can to give alittle to those who need it. Whether it be family, friends, co workers or just someone you see who needs help. Last year I saw a homeless person in alexandria living in their vehicle and I went and bought the person $10 in double cheeseburgers from mc donalds. Just little things like that make a huge difference.

Dylan, you should contact Diane Nilan and encourage her to run for office. If she can compile such a report on a budget of less than $100,000, she could add some spin to Obama's copious projections. Just inhale all the internet stuff and never have to verify data.

I suspect most of us do more (through taxes) for the poor than 'dylan' does with here proding and trying to guilt us into supporting her 'enabling' programs. None of us can claim to come close to her help for the GOP. Just her association with the Dem's has to be an embarassment to the party and every time she shares her wisdom, it must lead others to question their connection with the loony tunes party.

But Obama took Rezko's money even after the businessman was sued by the city of Chicago for failing to heat his low-income apartments, and even after Rezko was caught using a black business partner to obtain a minority set-aside for a fast-food franchise at O'Hare Airport. http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/02/01/rezko/

dylan, Again, there are currently no homeless shelters in this area that anyone could get involved with. So one another thing I'm not able to do is drive homless children from their shelter to their schools. ......... How do you suggest that I get involved in giving support to the homeless besides just heightening my awareness of the problem? .............................. By the way; How many homeless people have you taken into your home? How many kids do you provide a ride to school every morning?

Valerie Jarrett, Obama's close friend and advisor is a slum lord in Chicago. She made a fortune in the Chicago tenement market, primarily from managing slums and condo conversion sells with Obama's convicted and jailed financier Tony Rezko. Living conditions in the housing projects she manages are deplorable. You never hear about this in the MSM. Maybe that is why Obama didn't know about this. Either that, or he just doesn't care too much about the plight of Chicago's poor. http://www.brayincandy.com/id168.html

Do like Chicago did years ago. A one way bus ticket to Minneapolis. Perhaps, a national rate for welfare so the migrants don't overwhelm the areas with highest benefits. Maybe, a less trancient "victim" class would stay near their home town and rely on family for support like the rest of the world does. It would be harder to mobilize them into voting blocs, preventing them from swinging elections to the ones who promise them the most freeies.

dylan - Why doesn't President Obama take in some homeless people? The White House probably has enough food and space available for half a dozen homeless families. In addition, since the Obama family mansion back in Chicago is currently unoccupied, he should let the homeless live there as well. President Obama must not care about the homeless.
