Stacey, if you believe in sin, you should also believe in "love one another." At the end of the day, that's all there is: love.

Wonderful Article Jo!! I think in no way are you "forcing acceptance" like Stacey said. This article is opening the eyes of how a person grows up when they have questions about if they are straight, gay, bisexual or transgendered. To see what your friends go through when they are questioning themselves and having no one to talk to about this, maybe others will read this article and say, I'm not the only one. I really hope that "Alan" will be able to have a great life and accomplish all he desires! Thanks for the great story Jo!

Stacey, no one including "the world" is forcing anything on you. You can believe whatever you want. That's the beauty of living in a free society...get it?

“I’m flabbergasted that people think it’s a choice.” A direct quote. I find it hard to believe someone would select to be in the minority if their 'problem' is making friends and fitting in. I wonder how many people look to the 'straight' community for acceptance when they are straight? People who are subjected to assault and harassment - especially in a place they are forced to be in, like school - are victims. No need for quotations. People are obviously missing the point of this story. Perhaps their children need to be harassed and assaulted before they will care.

My thoughts are somewhat similar to Patti's. Nowhere in the story did he ever say anything about sexual preference. The story leads me to believe that he looked to the GLTB community for acceptance because he didn't feel like he cpould make friends anywhere else. I hold that assumption for a lot of non-mainstream groups. High school "goth" kids. Do they have that underlying tendancy? Or is it just a group that won't turn them away? People who take on the trials and tribulations of every "victim" group out there. Do they really care that much about what they are preaching? Or are they just looking for friends and those "victim" groups gladly accept the support?

One should not make the assumption that just because a boy is effeminate that he is gay. And if the boy assumes he are straight then maybe he is. A headline today on BBC News - "Plastic chemicals 'feminise boys'". These young men need medical attention rather than convince them that they are gay. Now that may not be the majority of the cases but it should be a consideration.

I wonder how many people were 'offended' by women receiving the right to vote and own property? Or how many people were 'offended' by African Americans being able to sit in front of them on a bus. Wake up, Stacey. It's 2009. Start treating your fellow Americans like they actually are Americans. With the same rights and equalities I'm sure you would like to deny. It's terrible when 'Christians' condone this evil behavior because homosexuals are sinners. I wonder how many people Jesus Christ harassed, assaulted, and belittled?

It probably offends a lot more individuals that people like you aren't over the fact that some people are gay. Seriously, get-fricken-over it.

It's horrible that the world is trying to force acceptance on those of us that still believe being gay is a sin. This article offends me.
