Good post, Mike! Sure would be great if the Twins weren't ALWAYS underdogs, though. Wouldn't it?

Actually, you're right: it is a sour-grapes harangue. Baseball is America's greatest game and the disparity of payroll between the Yankees and everyone else in the game just makes it all the more interesting. The David and Goliath story only adds to the game for me. This isn't a new thing. It's been around since they paid Babe Ruth a thousand dollars a week and he proudly proclaimed that he made more than the President of the United States. That was 70 years ago. Do you think that any other team paid a player even close to that back then? In the last hundred years, the Yankees have won 28 World Series--which means that 72 other times some other team has won it. Two of those were our plucky Twins of 1987 and 1991. I'm no Yankees fan. They have two more hurdles to jump before they take the World Series. Rooting for the underdog will be a lot of fun. That's part of the fun of baseball. Mike Dempsey Eagan
