What a coincidence. Heard on the radio that two girls, 14 and 15, were taken by ambulance to Sauk Center hospital after tipping over on a county road. Fortunately they were treated and released.

D.W., sadly, there's darn little common sense these days. Mostly among the parents. At 17, I got a dirtbike, and didn't kill myself, (but not for lack of trying). How can parents turn kids loose at ten or eleven on a machine that's a LOT different than a video game? I agree with not thinking a helmet would make a lot of difference in those cases, though.

When I was 15 I took the safety training course to ride an ATV. To be honest, it was a waste of my time and money. It was not worth it at all. People just have to use more common sense when riding ATV's. Wear a helmet, use caution at all times and watch out for the other riders, especially the idiots that go to the bar before riding and think they're fine to ride through a forest at high speeds.

They're not thinking, b.a.c. Some parents just seem happy not to have their children under foot while they do their "thing", whatever that might be.

What can some parents be thinking? Where I live, I've seen children as young as ten driving ATV's, and w/o helmets. On the highway and on the gravel roads.
