Warrant issued for Georgia man in Douglas County

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Elijah Zachariah Moore in Douglas County. Moore, 24, of Atlanta, Georgia, was involved in a fraudulent check cashing scam that spread through at least four states last year. Similar instances had been reported in Georgia, Louisiana, Wisconsin and in the Minneapolis/St. Paul and Moorhead areas.

Zoning ordinance update affects sign placement

Signs, signs, everywhere there’s signs – as long as they’re not too close to property lines. Douglas County commissioners approved a zoning ordinance revision that affects sign placement throughout the county at the June 11 county board meeting. Commissioners also discussed road closures, county meeting videos online and veteran services.

Brandon business has plans to expand while schools may consolidate

Voyager Industries, formerly Voyager Aluminum, plans to double manufacturing and office space in Brandon. Meanwhile, the school district is polling residents on the potential of combining Brandon and Evansville schools completely. Both changes would be effective July 2013.

Kensington Runestone Park entrance migrates south

A 20-day work plan began on May 24 to move the Kensington Runestone Park entrance. An entirely new road has been cut through the wooded land. Factoring in rainy weather in early June, the project is expected to be wrapped up by the end of the month.

Klimek delays plea in stabbing case

Kody Lee Klimek, 25, of Alexandria, attended his initial court appearance in Douglas County Court on Monday, June 10. Klimek is facing three counts of murder in the stabbing death on June 1 of Phillip Joel Altstadt, 28, also of Alexandria.

Klimek charged with three counts of murder

An Alexandria man was charged with murder in Douglas County District Court in Alexandria on Tuesday. Kody Lee Klimek, 25, of Alexandria is accused of fatally stabbing Phillip Joel Altstadt on Saturday, June 1. Altstadt, 28, of Alexandria died on the lawn outside Lincoln Estates apartments in Alexandria. Klimek is being held in Douglas County Jail on a $1 million bond. He faces conviction for three felony murder charges.

Two attempted burglaries reported at Holmes City residence days apart

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received two 911 calls from the same residence in Holmes City reporting an attempted burglary once on Saturday and again on Monday.
