Boys' basketball: Minnewaska grabs easy opening victory

The Lakers led by 22 at the half

By: Lori Mork, Alexandria Echo Press

With a new head coach and two major players out with serious injuries, it might have been expected that the Minnewaska boys’ basketball team would be a little shaky to open the season.

But the Lakers proved to be more than up to the task, bolting to a 22-point halftime lead and never looking back in their 77-63 win over Benson Friday night.

Four players hit double figures for Minnewaska as Austin Lieser had 17, while Austin Giese and Jayden Beecher each had 15 and Jake Amundson contributed 10.

Isaiah Adams had 10 of Minnewaska’s 45 rebounds in the game.

Benson got 27 points from Matt Ahrndt.

The Lakers were at New London-Spicer yesterday, Tuesday, and will be hosting Morris on Friday.
