Alexandria girls' basketball: Detroit Lakes shuts down Cardinals
Three fouled out for Alexandria in the 44-33 loss to the LakersBy: Lori Mork, Alexandria Echo Press
It was a tough night for the Cardinal girls Friday as Alexandria fell to Detroit Lakes 44-33 on the road to drop to 1-1 for the night.
“The story line was summed up simply by the following factors,” said Alexandria head coach Wendy Kohler, “deep foul trouble, allowing Detroit Lakes to score nearly half their points from the line, despite only scoring one field goal in the second half.”
Alexandria had troubles of its own on the offensive end as the team shot just 27 percent from the field and 45 percent from the free throw line.
The Cards also had three starters foul out of the game.
“However, we worked extremely hard the entire game, but at times, we didn’t work smart with our shot selection, and missed numerous point-blank put-ins,” said Kohler. “It was not a lack of effort.”
Despite spending a large amount of time on the bench with foul trouble, Amanda Christianson led the Cards with 10 points, while Karly Betterman and Sarah Bruzek added five, Dani Strater and Amanda Gould four, Kali Bowser three and Emily Thul two.
The Cardinals hosted No. 2 ranked Fergus Falls last night, Tuesday, and will be at Sartell on Friday.
