Alexandria got a pair of goals from Melissa Drown in the 5-1 victoryBy: Lori Mork, Alexandria Echo Press
A pair of goals by Melissa Drown helped boost the Cardinal girls to a 5-1 victory over state-ranked Simley at the Runestone Community Center Friday night.
Drown notched the first goal on an assist from Hanah Hansen in the first period, then added another goal early in the second on an assist from Shaneé Herd.
“Shelby Iverson also continued her scoring ways with a second period goal from linemate Madi Houska and 8th grade defender McKenzie Revering,” said head coach Andy Shriver.
Anna Carlson scored for Alexandria in the third period on assists by Iverson and Houska.
“Freshman Mari Wosepka closed out the scoring with a nice breakaway goal off a feed from Kaila Dewanz,” said Shriver.
Amy Jost blocked 18 of the 19 shots sent her way in goal, with the only Simley score coming on a power play in the first.
Alexandria will be at Brainerd tomorrow, Thursday, after traveling to Sartell/Sauk Rapids-Rice last night, Tuesday.
