Osakis man dies on farm

Osakis resident Douglas Rutten, 73, died Tuesday; he was found near a tractor at his farm.

Osakis resident Douglas Rutten, 73, died Tuesday; he was found near a tractor at his farm.

Originally, it was called in as a tractor accident, but the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) reported yesterday that it’s not clear whether a medical issue led to Rutten falling before he got on the tractor or if he fell off of it.

Emergency responders were called to 2901 Ottertail Trail NE in Osakis at 6:37 p.m. November 27 and Rutten was found unresponsive and injured when they arrived. Attempts to revive him at the scene were unsuccessful, according to law enforcement.

DCSO reported that Rutten was found by family near the tractor and it appeared the tractor was moving in circles before coming to a stop.

DCSO, Osakis First Responders and North Ambulance responded to the residence.
