Girls' basketball: Late free throw costs Minnewaska in loss to Paynesville

A free throw by Paynesville’s Rachel Ampe with nine seconds on the clock broke a 47-47 tie and allowed the Bulldogs to squeeze past Minnewaska in the season opener for the two teams Tuesday night.
The Lakers were unable to execute a play after taking a time out, leaving them short.
Minnewaska never led throughout the game, trailing by as many as nine in the second half. The Lakers did tie the contest several times with the final tie coming with 40 seconds on the clock.
Veronica Weisel had 10 points for Minnewaska, adding five rebounds.
