Alexandria and Rocori-River Lakes couldn’t break a 4-4 tie, even through overtime play, and had to close the game with a split of their Central Lakes Conference points Tuesday night.

“Both teams played well and skated hard, though it felt a little like a lost opportunity as the Cards lost a 4-1 second period lead by giving up three consecutive goals to the home team,” said head coach Andy Shriver.

“After giving up a power play goal in the first to go down 0-1, Shelby Iverson tipped in a feed from winger Anna Carlsen, with another assist going to Madi Houska.”

Alexandria took the lead as Melissa Drown scored just two minutes later off an assist from Taylor Ellingson, and Drown added another goal to start the second.

“Melissa opened the second period by doubling down on her first tally with a hard, upper corner sniper shot, again off the pass from Ellingson, to make it 3-1,” said Shriver. “Carlsen put the Cards up 4-1 as Shelby returned the favor, passing to Anna to make it 4-1.

“The plan to win 6-1 was derailed with two River Lakes goals in the second, and the tying goal in the third.”

Neither team was able to convert their opportunities in overtime, leaving the game knotted at four each.

“Bailey Serum made some key saves in the third and the overtime especially, turning back 26 shots on the night,” said Shriver.

Alexandria will be hosting Simley tonight, Friday, at 7:15 p.m. and will be at Sartell/Sauk Rapids-Rice on Tuesday.
