Habitat for Humanity of Douglas County (HFHDC) is currently recruiting a Family Selection Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) to join the global movement to build simple, decent and affordable housing in partnership with people in need.
In order to increase the number of families served each year, HFHDC is opening a VISTA position to increase the community’s awareness of homeownership opportunities and grow the number of qualified applicants.
Administered and funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), AmeriCorps VISTA is a national service program that provides opportunities for people of all ages to serve full-time for one year with a community organization.
In exchange for their service, VISTA members receive a living allowance of $946 per month, health benefits and student loan deferment. In addition, after completing the one-year service commitment, VISTA members can choose to receive either a cash stipend of $1,500 or an education award of $5,550 to be used for tuition or student loans.
Habitat for Humanity VISTA members spend one year working full-time on projects designed to increase the organizational capacity of local Habitat for Humanity affiliates. VISTA members recruit and coordinate volunteers, raise funds and secure in-kind donations, start new programs, and conduct outreach and marketing campaigns.
Locally, HFHDC is actively recruiting for a VISTA position. The position includes extensive leadership and professional development training that will prepare the VISTA members for futures in nonprofit or public service careers.
