To the editor:
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make our sixth annual Taking Steps Against Domestic Violence walk a wonderful success! The day was beautiful and more than 275 community members came out to show their support for ending domestic violence in Douglas County.
Walking together with matching orange T-shirts and signs saying “End the Abuse” or “Stop the Violence,” we moved forward, unified in spirit, hoping for a better tomorrow for the children, women and men who are struggling and suffering in their homes filled with domestic violence.
Our speaker shared a heartfelt message of hope, courage, perseverance and phenomenal healing. Truly an inspiration for all of us and an affirmation that we need to work as a community to end domestic abuse for everyone!
We’d like to say another heartfelt thank you to everyone who made possible the 12th annual Domestic Abuse Awareness Luncheon. Our speaker, Mark Wynn, was fabulous; the setting and food great; the silhouettes honoring those murdered in Minnesota sobering; and the solidarity we experienced together in knowing we were striving to end domestic violence a unifying force of purpose and hope.
Because of the generosity of numerous businesses with donations of in-kind gifts, publicity, monetary support and employee time, our domestic awareness events brought hope and change for many in our community. We also want to convey our appreciation to all the professionals, family members and friends, and citizens of our community for believing in the importance of ending domestic violence and showing support. Truly, together, we can and we will, make our community a better place for every person living here.
Mark your calendars for October of 2013 to join with us to show your support for making our community free from domestic violence!
