Three people were injured in a head-on crash near Alexandria Thursday night. The two-car crash happened just after 7 p.m. on County Road 45 south of Firemans Lodge Road.
According to Alexandria Police Chief Rick Wyffels, the vehicle driven by Jesse Streed, 36, of Alexandria lost control on an icy patch and crossed the center line colliding with a southbound vehicle driven by Dale Danter, 36, of Glenwood. Danielle Kloos, 23, of Donnelly, was a passenger in Streed's vehicle and she was also injured.
All three were taken to Douglas County Hospital.
Kloos was later transported to St. Cloud Hospital. As of noon Friday she was in serious condition.
County Road 45 was shut down for about one hour while emergency responders were on the scene. Alexandria Fire Department, Alexandria Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff's Office and Minnesota State Patrol responded to the crash.
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), driving conditions were difficult across west central Minnesota, particularly Interstate 94 and state highways between Moorhead and Melrose.
There were numerous reports of vehicles in ditches in the Alexandria area. Friday morning, the Minnesota State Patrol reported that it handled 183 crashes and 226 vehicles off road - 26 of those crashes involved injuries - during the Thanksgiving Day winter storm.
