Letter - Republican polster's remarks about young people speak volumes
I’m sorry, but I don’t think young people are bums and socialists, mooching off the family and society.
To the editor:
Here’s Republican polster Glen Bolger’s view of youth, spoken at the Republican Governor’s Association meeting: “Why do 29 year olds favor socialism over capitalism? It’s because in their definition, socialism is ‘I’m living in my parent’s basement cuz I can’t get a job and this is pretty good’.”
I’m sorry, but I don’t think young people are bums and socialists, mooching off the family and society. Broad generalizations about whole categories of people are degrading and reveal the ignorance of the speaker.
When the Republican Party allows this sort of message at the highest levels of party functions, they speak volumes about how they really feel about others.
If I was under 29, I’d feel grossly insulted.
