Local youth participate in shooting invitational

The youth had the opportunity to showcase the skills they’ve learned throughout the past year. They spent 15 or more hours working with a trained instructor in their discipline of interest.

4-H youth attended the Minnesota 4-H State Shooting Sports and Wildlife Invitational held in Martin County September 7-9.

There were 634 youth from 52 counties participating in the following events: BB gun, standard air rifle, 3 position air rifle, air pistol, .22 rifle, muzzleloading, trap, silhouette, wildlife calling, skillathon and conservation/wildlife displays throughout the weekend.

The following Douglas County participants competed in the invitational:

Kade Jorud, Spruce Hill Rangers, Alexandria (archery); Chris Jorud, Spruce Hill Rangers, Alexandria (archery, air pistol, trap); Peyton Fischer, Moe, Brandon (BB gun, standard air rifle, 3-position air rifle, air pistol); Hannah Gebhardt, Moe, Brandon (archery, 3 position air rifle, air pistol, .22 rifle); Amanda Schmidt, Chippewans, Alexandria (trap); O’Ryan Bosek, Chippewans, Garfield (trap); Joshua Gebhardt, Moe, Brandon (trap); Cody Lund, Moe, Brandon (trap); Mitchel Floding, Lake Mary Troopers, Alexandria (BB gun, 3 position air rifle); Will Schroeder, Moe, Brandon (trap); Jaden Klimek, Fancy Farmers, Osakis (archery); and Jordan Lund, Moe, Brandon (standard air rifle, 3 position air rifle, trap).

Individual highlights included Will Schroeder, intermediate trap, 17th place; Josh Gebhardt, senior trap, 2nd place; Amanda Schmidt, senior trap, 4th place; O’Ryan Bosek, senior trap, 5th place; Jordan Lund, intermediate air rifle, 14th place.

Team highlights included Riley Terhaar, Pope County 4-H; O’Ryan Bosek, Joshua Gebhardt, Cody Lund and Amanda Schmidt, 1st place in senior trap.

Amanda Schmidt takes part in national event

Amanda Schmidt of Alexandria, a member of the Chippewans 4-H Club, participated in the National 4-H Shooting Sports and Wildlife Invitational in Grand?Island, Nebraska June 17-22.

Schmidt was selected to attend the event through an application process following her participation in the 2011 MN 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational.
