Osakis volleyball: Silverstreaks have three on All-Prairie team
By: Eric Morken, Alexandria Echo Press
The Osakis volleyball team got back to the top of the Prairie Conference this fall behind a lineup that featured three all-league players.
Becka Sadlemyer, Dani Chisholm and Annalise Savageau were all recognized for that honor at the fall awards banquet on November 12. Tayler Waldvogel and Brooke Sorenson were also honorable mention all-conference for a team that finished 21-8 overall.
Sadlemyer led the way offensively and defensively at the net for Osakis. The senior middle hitter had a team-high 211 kills on her way to being named the team’s MVP on offense. Sadlemyer was also one of the best blockers in the conference on defense. She finished with 71.5 of her team’s 202 blocks.
The defensive team MVP Award went to Tayler Waldvogel. The senior libero got her team’s offense going with her passes from the back row. She finished with 501 of her team’s 1,800 digs.
Madison Forsell was named the most improved player by her teammates. The junior outside hitter was third on the team with 132 kills. She also added 26 ace serves, 15.5 blocks and 88 digs to help Osakis all over the court.
Freshman Brittney Sadlemyer rounded out the team award winners by taking home the Silverstreak Award. She encouraged her teammates from the bench and spelled Becka at the middle hitter position at times as well. Brittney finished with 10 kills and 5.5 blocks from that position.
The Silverstreaks won the North half of the Prairie Conference before meeting South champion Upsala to determine an overall champion on October 22. Osakis had lost to the Cardinals 3-1 earlier that season but avenged that when it mattered most in a five-set win over Upsala in the title match.
Osakis also pushed top-seeded Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa to five games in the second round of the 5A tournament. The Silverstreaks had been swept by the Jaguars on October 8 but put a scare into BBE in the playoffs before coming up just short in a 15-9 game five.
Osakis had a good season on the court, but a great season off it. The Silverstreaks earned a Gold Academic Award with a team GPA of 3.84. That was tops in the entire section. Becka Sadlemyer, Rachelle Rajdl, Chisholm and Waldvogel all earned academic all-state recognition.
