State Class A swim meet: Opdahl fifth in two events
Minnewaska-Morris senior sprinter Bridget Opdahl finished fifth in the 50 and the 100 free during the finals of both events during the State Class A girls' swimming and diving meet held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center Saturday afternoon.
Opdahl swam a 24.33, just 0.08 seconds slower than her preliminary time in the 50 free, a race that saw an new Minnesota Class A record set. Daielle Nack, a junior from Mankato West, swam a 22.82 to corral the individual title and break the old mark of 22.93 that she set last year at the state meet.
In the 100 free, Opdahl swam a 53.75 - again, a little slower than her preliminary time of 53.49, but still earning a fifth place finish in her final high school event. The 100 free was won by Solveig Viren of Grand Rapids with a time of 51.81. The Class A record in that event is held by Heidi Busack of Fergus Falls, set in 2010.
Opdahl's two finishes gave Minnewaska-Morris a team total of 28 points, good for 26th place in the team standings. Northfield won the state meet with a score of 223, while Sartell-St. Stephen was second with 175.
