• Cory Seifert, a financial advisor with Ameriprise Financial, Inc., recently attended an offsite investment symposium conference. During the two-day conference, Seifert heard from numerous industry experts and wholesaling firms. Topics included investment themes for 2012, taxes and politics, global real estate outlook and charitable giving.

• Alex Power Equipment announces the addition of Craig Neubarth to the sales staff. Neubarth has 25 years of sales experience including four years’ experience in compact tractors and skid loaders. He has completed training with Bobcat Company. The training covered their complete product line.

Alex Power Equipment is a locally owned company selling and servicing Kubota, Bobcat, Cub Cadet and Husqvarna equipment.

• Jessica Nelson recently finished seven weeks of instruction through the American Family Insurance Agent in Training (AIT) Program and is now continuing her training, working in the Alexandria-based office of agent Doug Marciniak.

As an AIT, Nelson specializes in auto, home, farm and life insurance. She is able to help clients make the transition away from their current insurance provider easy and simple. Upon graduation from Gustavus Adolphus College in 2005, Nelson chose to reside in the Alexandria area.

Nelson will maintain the title of agent in training for 13-24 months and will then be given the opportunity to open her own agent office.

• On Saturday, November 17 from noon to 1:30 p.m., Cherry Street Books will host award-winning author Peter Geye for a book signing. A lifelong resident of Minneapolis, Geye has written two novels, Safe from the Sea and The Lighthouse Road, both set in northern Minnesota. He will do a short presentation about his work at noon and then be available to visit and sign books.

The Lighthouse Road involves a young Norwegian immigrant woman who settles into life outside Duluth in the 1890s and continues into later years and her grown son.

• Bremer Bank recently hired Katie Cass as a personal banker in the downtown Alexandria bank location. Cass recently moved to Alexandria from Minneapolis where she spent 10 years working at Bremer Bank in a variety of positions.

Cass joined Bremer in 2002 in the lending department. She spent two years as personal banker before joining the credit analyst team. The past four years, Cass was an assistant vice president in private banking. She has a bachelor’s degree in business management and communication from the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of St. Thomas.
