Alexandria girls' hockey: Cardinals even record with victory

After a loss to North Metro Saturday, the Cardinal girls’ hockey team bounced back to pick up a 3-0 Central Lakes Conference win over Fergus Falls Tuesday.

All three Alexandria goals came in the second period and each from a different player as Becca Illies led off with a goal at 3:08 off assists from Shelby Iverson and Madi Houska.

Iverson notched the second goal on an assist by Houska less than 20 seconds later, and Kaila Dewanz rounded out the scoring with a goal at 8:16 off an assist from Nicole Bartels.

Amy Josh started in the net for the Cardinals and made 13 saves, while her teammates peppered the nets on the other end, sending 25 shots at Otter goaltender Jordie Salwei.

Both the Cardinals and the Otters received votes in the pre-season State Class A polls. In fact, River Lakes and Willmar, both Central Lakes Conference opponents, also received votes, as did the Detroit Lakes Lakers, who played in Alexandria last night, Thursday.

The Cardinals will host Moorhead on Tuesday, and next weekend will be at Mound-Westonka and Orono.
