Lake Carlos State Park sets workshops

Lake Carlos State Park is offering multiple workshops throughout the months of November and December.

The following is a list of workshops:

Saturday, November 17

--10 a.m. to noon. Where do they go? (Bird feeder making): Meet at the visitor center. Learn about adaptations of birds and how those that are still here survive the cold and snowy winters. Make pinecone bird feeders. Registration not required.

--2 to 3 p.m. Flint and steel fire making: Meet at the visitor center. Learn about the history of fire making and try starting a fire using traditional flint and steel methods.

Saturday, December 1

--10 a.m. to noon. Bees wax candle making. Meet at the visitor center. Learn the art and history of candle dipping. Make a set to take home. Pre-registration by November 24 is required. The class is limited to 15 people and costs $5 per person.

Saturday, December 8

--1 to 3 p.m. Animal signs/tracking. Meet at the visitor center. With a naturalist, investigate the signs and clues that animals leave behind. Come prepared for the weather, as the class takes place outside.

Saturday, December 15

--10 a.m. to noon. Snowshoe with a naturalist. Meet at the visitor center. Explore the park. Learn the styles and advantages of snowshoes. Bring snowshoes or use the park’s.

--1 to 3 p.m. Snowshoe geocaching. Meet at the visitor center. Learn the basics of a GPS, how they work, and what geocaching is. Cover the basics before heading out on snowshoes to try a course in the park, created just for the program. Dress warm. Bringing a GPS or snowshoes is optional.

Children younger than 14 must be accompanied by an adult. A vehicle permit, available at the park office ($5 for one day or $25 for 12 months), is required to enter the park.
