After months of campaigning and cajoling, candidates running for political office could only wait for the results to come in Tuesday.

Polls were still open when this issue of the Echo Press went to press Tuesday morning. Complete election results will be printed in Friday’s newspaper.

Douglas County residents can also find up-to-the-minute results on www.echopress.com. The Echo Press will have a reporter at the Douglas County Courthouse getting the results from the precincts as they come in.

Locally, voters will determine five Douglas County Board races; contested city council races in Alexandria, Brandon, Carlos, Kensington, Miltona, Nelson and Osakis; contested mayoral positions in Alexandria, Carlos and Garfield; and school board races in Alexandria, Brandon, Osakis, Minnewaska, West Central Area and Parkers Prairie.

Residents in the cities of Brandon and Osakis will vote on whether to allow additional on-sale liquor licenses, and those in Brandon Township will determine whether the clerk and treasurer positions should be appointed instead of elected.

Douglas County residents will also have a hand in determining the winners for Minnesota Senate Districts 8 and 12 and House Districts 8B, 12A and 12B.

They will also help decide two hotly debated proposed constitutional amendments, one dealing with the definition of marriage and another that would require voters to show photo identification.

There will also be soil and water conservation district supervisors on the ballot, all running unopposed, and several judicial offices to consider.

At the top of the ballot are choices to make for U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate, and, of course, the presidential ticket.
