The Jefferson High School (JHS) theater department’s fall play, Almost, Maine, will be performed November 9-11.
This modern and quirky comedy consists of nine vignettes that make up the play, all of which happen at 9 p.m. on a winter’s Friday night, as the townsfolk fall in and out of love with each other.
The residents of the town of Almost find themselves in a number of romantic and hilarious predicaments. Knees are bruised. Hearts are broken.
Bruises heal and hearts mend – almost – in what playwright John Cariani calls a “midwinter night’s dream.”
Director Jessica Chipman says this is a play for the whole family.
“The playwright makes a point to mention that the citizens of Almost are a lot like Minnesotans,” she noted. “Community members who come out to see the play might see someone who reminds them of themselves in pretty funny circumstances!”
Nineteen JHS students make up the ensemble cast, including junior Brendan Sieve, who most recently appeared in JHS’ production of Little Shop of Horrors, and junior Tori Long (Little Shop of Horrors, Pandora and Freya).
Crew members include senior stage manager Emma Lawrence, who was seen last spring as the puppeteer of Audrey Two in Little Shop of Horrors.
Almost, Maine’s production team is led by director Jessica Chipman and includes costume designer Lynne Cosmano and technical director Jay Chipman.
Performances are Friday and Saturday, November 9-10 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 11 at 2 p.m. in the Discovery Middle School auditorium in Alexandria.
Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children, and will be available at the door.
