James Edgar Wicklund, 78, died Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

James Edgar Wicklund, 78, died Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria.

James was born November 5, 1933 in Oscar Township, Douglas County, to Ernest and Edna (Gustafson) Wicklund. He attended country school through the eighth grade. He served his country in the United States Army.

On June 22, 1963 James was united in marriage to Barbara Smith at Solem Lutheran Church in Kensington. To this union, the couple was blessed with two sons, Jeff and Kyle. They raised their family in the Oscar Lake area, where James enjoyed farming. James worked for Hall Engineering and Stoeckel Surveying as a surveyor.

James enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.

He is survived by his sons, Jeff (Elaine) Wicklund of Becker and Kyle (Kristine) Wicklund of Clitherall; six grandchildren, Jeremy, Dylan, Gabriel, Katie, Jacob, and August; brothers, Earl (Shirley) Wicklund of International Falls and Bruce (Shirley) Wicklund of Kensington; and sister, Darlene (Howard) Hennen of Donnelly.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Edna; wife, Barbara; brother, Ferdinand; and sister, Joyce.

A memorial service was held Friday, November 2 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Holmes City with the Rev. Denise Croskey officiating. Inurnment was held at Trinity Cemetery. Military honors were provided by the Alexandria American Legion Post 87 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936.
