Student accomplishments and scholarships

STUDENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Darren Radil of the Alexandria FFA Chapter received his FFA American Degree at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis on October 27. He is the fourth of the Radil siblings to receive this degree (Matthew 1998, Melinda 2002 and Dwight 2006). They are the children of Max and Lyla Radil. Less than 1 percent of FFA members receive this degree, given to members who show dedication to the organization through the desire to develop their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. Honorees must have earned and invested $7,500 through a supervised agricultural experience program in which they start, own or hold a professional position.

Two Alexandria Jefferson High School Band students, Amelia Golde (trumpet) and Mitch Maday (trombone), were recently selected to the St. Olaf College Honor Band Festival. They were nominated by their respective band directors. This year’s Honor Band Festival will be held on Saturday, November 10 and will feature students from the Upper Midwest together in a large concert ensemble.

SCHOLARSHIPS:

Brook Mounsdon, daughter of Andy and Janel Mounsdon of Evansville, received a $6,000 Valedictorian Scholarship from Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM). The scholarship is given to students admitted to MSUM who rank number one in their graduating class. It awards $1,500 for the freshman year. It’s renewable for a maximum of four years with a 3.5 GPA. Mounsdon intends to major in accounting.
