Letter - Give all citizens protection under the law
As a teacher in the Alexandria area schools for nearly 30 years, I had the privilege of working with many gay students. These were just regular kids, wonderful kids, oftentimes leaders in their churches, community and schools, as well as athletics, arts and academics.
To the editor:
As a teacher in the Alexandria area schools for nearly 30 years, I had the privilege of working with many gay students. These were just regular kids, wonderful kids, oftentimes leaders in their churches, community and schools, as well as athletics, arts and academics.
I could never discourage these great people from making loving, committed relationships nor deny them the same rights my husband and I enjoy as a married couple!
In our state we have both marriage rites performed by the church and marriage rights provided by law. Churches may limit marriage according to their religious beliefs. The state must apply laws to protect the civil rights of all citizens.
Please vote no to the constitutional marriage amendment. Give all our citizens protection under the law to have loving and legal partnerships.
