The Osakis volleyball team avenged a 3-1 loss to Prairie South champion Upsala on Monday night as the Silverstreaks outlasted the Cardinals in a five-set match between the winners of each half of the conference.
The win gave the Silverstreaks the overall league title after Osakis was able to battle back from a loss in the first set by winning 25-21 in the second and 26-24 in the third. Upsala forced a fifth set with a 25-17 win in the fourth before Osakis won 15-10 to secure the match.
“Despite losing game four, we did start game five with momentum and focus,” head coach Kirsten Wessel said. “I am very proud of the girls for staying focused and not letting up.”
The Silverstreaks’ attack at the net was strong all night as they finished with 56 kills. Becka Sadlemyer was the catalyst as she put down 23 of those. Brooke Sorenson also had a big night with 15 kills, while Madison Forsell and Annalise Savageau added nine and seven, respectively.
Savageau and Mariah Backes shared the setting duties as they finished with 24 and 17 assists, respectively. Dani Chisholm helped carry the defense with 25 digs, while Tayler Waldvogel finished with 21.
The Silverstreaks entered the Section 5A tournament with 20 wins under their belt. They were scheduled to host Kimball Area last night, Thursday. The winner of that match will travel to Brooten to take on top-seeded Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa tonight, Friday, at 7 p.m.
