State Class A tennis: Area individuals fall in opening round
Osakis' Taylor Kraemer and Minnewaska's Ellen Stensrud, Rachel Riley and MaKenna Hanson all lost their opening round matches at the State Class A individual tennis tournament today, Thursday, at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
Kraemer and Stensrud competed in the singles tournament, with Kraemer falling to Mikayla Wing of Staples-Motley 6-2, 6-1, and Stensrud falling to Sonya Das of St. Paul Academy 6-0, 6-0. Kraemer then faced Katelyn Rice of Eveleth-Gilbert int he consolation bracket, but her score wasn't posted at this time. Stensrud faced Claire Christian of United South Central, falling 6-2, 6-0 to end her tournament action.
Riley and Hanson, playing in the doubles tournament, fell to Sarah Hays and Gina Nguyen of St. Paul Academy 6-1, 6-1. They face Megan Lahti and Michaela Nelson of St. James in the consolation bracket at 2 p.m.
