Letter - DFL candidates support education

To the editor:
The biggest myth of this campaign season is that the rich are job creators. The richest person in the country will not produce a single job if there is no market for his/her product. We, the consumers, are the market. And we can create consumers with strong support for our educational systems. A well-educated workforce is the key to the economic success of our region, our state and our country.
We recognized that need locally by voting for a new high school in Alexandria. That will be a tremendous economic boon to this area. And we are fortunate to have the Alexandria Technical and Community College serving West Central Minnesota. But it’s time we made the commitment to fund the ATCC at levels necessary to support the demand for their product: highly trained and skilled technical people.
The DFL candidates in Senate Districts 8 and 12, and House Districts 8B, 12A and 12B all recognize the importance of education. They all support the idea that the ATCC must be funded at a level commensurate with the employment needs of area businesses.
Accordingly, please vote for Dan Skogen, John Schultz, Bob Cunniff, Jay McNamar and Rick Rosenfield, respectively, on November 6.
