Big changes are happening on Geneva Road.
A bridge replacement project on Douglas County Road 111 (Geneva Road) started Tuesday, October 23 and should be completed within a week.
Landwehr Construction of St. Cloud is the contractor on the $228,000 project.
County Road 111 is now closed at the bridge located at the Geneva/L’Homme Dieu Channel. Road closed signs are in place at County Road 73 on the north end and at Birch Avenue on the south.
A detour has been set up on Highway 29 and Birch Avenue. Access to all businesses and homes will be maintained during construction from either end of the project.
The channel between Lake Geneva and Lake L’Homme Dieu is closed to boat traffic as well.
The existing bridge is being replaced with a concrete box culvert similar to the one under Highway 29.
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), the new culvert will provide easier passage of boats, allow shoulders to be constructed along the roadway and will be a significant safety improvement for all.
