Section 8AA football: Nighthawks fall to Pelican Rapids
Tanner Grahn and the Pelican Rapids Vikings were too much for the Prairie Valley football team as they handed the Nighthawks a 41-14 loss in the opening round of the 8AA playoffs on Tuesday.
Grahn scored four touchdowns as he helped the Vikings run for 216 yards on 40 carries. Hunter Arnold and Mark Hewitt scored Prairie Valley’s only touchdowns as the Nighthawks finished with a 5-3 overall record.
Five turnovers made it difficult for the Nighthawks to establish their offense. Pelican Rapids used those takeaways to take a 21-6 lead into the half and made it 34-6 through three quarters.
Logan Riedel went 13-for-20 passing the ball in his final game. Arnold, Grant Yohnke and Alec Alberts each caught three of those balls. Tyler Schlosser led the defense with 19 tackles. Riedel added seven, while Derek Meyer finished with an interception.
