Section 4 9-Man football: Wheaton/Herman-Norcross too much for Ashby
The Wheaton-Herman-Norcross football team was dominant from start to finish in the opening round of the Section 4 9-man playoffs as the Warriors handed Ashby its worst loss of the season in a 72-14 game.
“It’s been an up and down season for us trying to develop consistency in our offense and toughness in our defense,” Arrows’ head coach Andy Campbell said. “At times, we play very well and other times, not so well. Tonight, we did not execute our game plan on any side of the ball.”
Gage Olson was one of the lone bright spots for Ashby. He scored on an 87-yard kickoff return. Olson also ran 12 times for 45 yards and caught four balls for 24 yards. Junior quarterback Blake Ohren added the other touchdown but finished 7-for-26 passing with three interceptions. He added 71 yards rushing on 13 carries.
Sophomore linebacker Hunter Fick led the defense with 18 tackles. Senior linebacker Tanner Langlie added eight tackles, as well.
“We will build off some little successes we had this season and move forward into next [season],” Campbell said. “Hopefully a little more hungry and with an understanding that games are won and lost in the off-season and not necessarily on game days. We have the bulk of our players returning but will miss our three seniors and their dedication.”
Ashby finished the season 4-5 overall and 4-4 in the Pheasant Conference.
