Carlson helps send St. Olaf to Nationals

Former Cardinal and current St. Olaf women’s golfer Maxine Carlson helped the Oles capture the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) championship for the second straight season earlier this month.

St. Olaf capped off the three-day tournament by shooting a 322 on October 8 to complete an 11-stroke win over rival Carleton. It was a win that secured the Ole’s second straight trip to the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championships in May.

Carlson came up huge for her team in one of the biggest meets of the season. She finished tied for fourth individually at the MIAC tournament to earn all-conference honors. The sophomore shot 82, 79, 79 for a three-day total of 240.

That was just five shots off the individual title won by her senior teammate Molly Erickson. Her back-to-back 79s on the final two days of the tournament were low rounds of the fall season.
