Jim and Aimee Masterson were sleeping in their home on West Lake Jessie Drive in southeast Alexandria on October 11 when their neighbor, Mark Meuwissen, banged on their door and told them their shed was on fire.

The fire, which happened a little before midnight, is believed to have started from a wood burner.

When Alexandria firefighters arrived, the 8-by-10-foot shed was fully engulfed.

The shed was a total loss. The fire also burned three cords of wood and a good-sized section of the nearby woods.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to stop it from spreading to the Mastersons’ house, which is about 70 feet from the shed.

Jim Masterson thanked the fire department and his neighbor for their prompt response.
