Close call with semi

It could have been much worse. Randy Gene Bye, 53, of Kensington was driving his Jeep on Highway 27 near Interstate 94 last Thursday afternoon when he collided into the side of a semitrailer.

It could have been much worse.

Randy Gene Bye, 53, of Kensington was driving his Jeep on Highway 27 near Interstate 94 last Thursday afternoon when he collided into the side of a semitrailer.

The Jeep ended up partially underneath the trailer. The hood and front end of the vehicle were crumpled, the windshield was smashed and both front tires were flattened.

A law enforcement officer on the scene said that it was fortunate that the Jeep struck a jack underneath the trailer. Otherwise, the trailer may have sheared off the top of the vehicle.

The semitrailer was driven by Gary Josan, 25, of Bakersfield, California.

Bye was wearing a seat belt and the State Patrol reported that no one was taken to the hospital.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene and directed traffic away from the crash site. North Ambulance was also paged out.

The Alexandria Fire Department responded and worked with a towing company to pull the Jeep out from under the semitrailer.
