Letter - Defend marriage as a union between one man and one woman

On November 6, Minnesotans will be asked to do what 33 states have already done, and what the Department of Justice refuses to do: Defend the definition of marriage as a union between one man and one woman.

To the editor:

On November 6, Minnesotans will be asked to do what 33 states have already done, and what the Department of Justice refuses to do: Defend the definition of marriage as a union between one man and one woman.

This understanding of marriage goes all the way back to its source: the Bible. And before the objection is raised that this is another instance of narrow-minded Christians trying to impose their will on the country, I would remind everyone that hospitals, orphanages, homes for the aged, and universities (notice at commencement services that the professors and the graduates don robes and look like clerics) are the products of Christian teaching and biblical principles.

Once the definition of marriage is expanded to include persons of the same gender, there is no logical reason that such expansion will not continue (group marriage, polygamy, cross species). Anthropology tells us no human society, ancient or modern, primitive or civilized, has ever sustained itself with a buffet-like family model; just pick what suits you.

Marriage matters, not only in Minnesota but across the country.

On November 6, the citizens of Minnesota will do their part by voting yes to defend marriage.
