The Alexandria volleyball team celebrated its 10 seniors in the regular-season finale on Tuesday night and sent them out a winner in a 3-1 match against section-rival Moorhead.
The Cardinals used the energy of Senior Night to win 26-24 in the first set and battle back from a 24-26 loss in the second to win 25-22, 25-16 over the final two sets.
“The night was filled with emotions for players, coaches and parents as we celebrated the success and dedication of our 10 fantastic senior players,” head coach Becky Schlichting said. “The girls used this emotion to beat Moorhead…Our passing game improved throughout the match, which enabled our setters to get the ball to our senior middle hitters, Adrianne Wensman and Tara LeBrasseur. This is something that greatly strengthens the threat of our offense.”
Amanda Christianson led a more balanced attack at the net as she finished with 12 kills. Wensman added eight, Emily Kuennen had seven and LeBrasseur finished with six of her team’s 44 kills.
Allie Noetzelman set them up all night with 25 assists. Nicole Canavati added 17 helpers, while Natalie Watkins (18), Jenni Wild (17) and Shanee’ Herd (16) all finished with double-digit digs.
Noetzelman also reached her 1,000th assist in her Alexandria career. The milestone came during the second set of the match.
“Allie has been a staple on the varsity court for three years now,” Schlichting said. “It was awesome to have the chance to recognize her for an accomplishment not many players get a chance to achieve.”
The Cardinals wrapped up the regular season with a 9-5 record in matches outside tournament play. They finished 8-4 in the Central Lakes Conference, good for a second-place tie with Willmar. Fergus Falls won the CLC title with a perfect 12-0 record.
