Alexandria swimming and diving coach Mark Storhaug reached another milestone in his storied career as he passed the 200-win mark as the coach of the Cardinals girls’ program in his 29th season.
Storhaug’s 200th win came in a victory over Rocori earlier this season. His athletes have helped him add to that since then with four more wins as he wraps up the regular season with a 204-110 record in his career at the helm of the girls’ program.
Storhaug has helped his boys’ and girls’ teams to more than 400 wins during the course of his career. His record with the boys’ program is 215-72, for a 0.749 winning percentage.
Storhaug has racked up some impressive accomplishments over his 29 seasons. The boys have won 13 Central Lakes Conference championships and nine Section 8AA titles during his tenure. He’s coached two Class AA state championship teams, had 27 all-state athletes and nine high school All-Americans.
His girls’ teams have won 12 CLC championships and 10 Section 8 titles. He has coached 49 all-conference athletes, seven all-state performers and one individual state champion on the girls’ side.
Storhaug has received plenty of recognition for those accomplishments. He is a two-time Minnesota State Coaches Association Boys’ Swim Coach of the Year (1999, 2000) and a six-time Section 8 Coach of the Year. He also earned the 2000 National Federation of State High School Associations Coach of the Year Award.
