Letter - Please stand with us to stop this project

I have never been the kind of person that could tolerate a bully. We have a bully trying to move into our neighborhood in the form of a 4,000-unit corporate hog facility.

To the editor:

I have never been the kind of person that could tolerate a bully. We have a bully trying to move into our neighborhood in the form of a 4,000-unit corporate hog facility. We, the surrounding neighbors and many others who oppose this facility, have been doing our best to be heard and fight for our concerns.

When appealing to our commissioners, we were told we were not the voters who voted them in. Aside from our own commissioner, we have received little to no support.

When dealing with the Gourleys and the Fitzsimmons, we are treated as a nuisance. They simply do not care about the surrounding neighbors (36 within a 2-1/2 mile radius). They do not care that the property they plan to build this project on is too close to Dismal Creek and the Long Prairie River.

This corporate bully has the support of the chair of commissioners, Gerald Ruda. We need people in all places that oppose this treatment of the people and the land to step forward, call their commissioners and demand that a fair and just decision is made for those being forced into this. Make them hear us say together: “Find safe places for these facilities!” Help us to loosen the ties that are holding us down while this facility is being forced down our throats.

We are taking a stand against multimillion dollar hog facility owners. We hope to force them to put these hog facilities in safe places. We stand to protect our homes, our air, land, lakes and rivers. We stand to protect and preserve our local agriculture. We stand to protect our families and friends. We stand to protect the future. Stand with us.
