After a rugged start of four straight losses, the Minnewaska Laker football team has put together back-to-back victories.
Friday, the Lakers used a strong second half to roll to a 45-20 win over Sauk Centre during Minnewaska’s homecoming as Austin Ostrander, Sam Long and Jake Amundson all had two touchdowns.
The Lakers led 19-14 at the half after a 41-yard run by Long in the first quarter and runs of 16 and five yards by Ostrander.
Amundson scored the first two touchdowns of the second half on runs of five and 26 yards, with Long picking up his second in the fourth quarter on a two-yard sprint.
Luke Nielsen capped the Laker scoring with a 48-yard scamper.
In all, Minnewaska tallied 466 yards on the ground in the win. Ostrander also threw for 63 yards in the game.
Amundson and Ostrander each had an interception on defense.
The Laker defense held the Mainstreeters to just 52 yards rushing, but Sauk Centre did pick up 272 yards through the air, despite having two throws intercepted by the Lakers.
Minnewaska will play at Benson Friday in a West Central Conference contest.
