Football: State-ranked Warriors roll over Chargers

Cody Lund scored Brandon-Evansville's only touchdown

When you face a state-ranked team, sometimes there’s just not much to say.

“Another tough game against a very tough team tonight,” said Brandon-Evansville head coach Tim Pattrin of the Chargers’ 66-8 loss to No. 8 Wheaton-Herman-Norcross last Friday. “We will learn from the mistakes we made and move on to our next game against Verndale.”

It was evident from the beginning that this would be a long night for the Chargers as the Warriors scored 36 unanswered points in the first quarter. They added 14 in the second and 16 in the third, more than enough to overcome Brandon-Evansville’s one touchdown.

That score came in the third quarter as Cody Lund scampered for 11 yards and a touchdown, with Zack Henneman running in the two-point conversion.

In all, the Chargers were able to produce a total of 130 yards on offense, with all but 13 yards coming on the ground.

Jon Thoennes led the way as he carried the ball five times for 39 yards, while Josh Barsness rushed six times for 32 yards.

Cody Lund led the defense with eight solo tackles and eight assists.

Brandon-Evansville travels to Verndale tonight, Friday for a 7 p.m. game before wrapping up the regular season on Wednesday as the Chargers host Bertha-Hewitt.
