Behind Amanda Christiason’s 20 kills, the Cardinal volleyball team was able to rally for a win against Sartell in a five-set match Tuesday night.
Alexandria opened with a 25-19 win, but Sartell, which came into the match with a 4-6 conference record, rebounded to win 25-19.
Set three saw the Cardinals win easily 25-13, but the pesky Sabres bounced back for a 25-21 win, sending the match into a tiebreaking fifth set.
From there, Alexandria battled it out for a 15-9 win to improve to 8-3 in Central Lakes Conference play, three games back of league-leading Fergus Falls.
“Although there were swings in momentum throughout the match, the girls were able to stay mentally tough and pull off the win in the fifth set,” said Cardinal head coach Becky Schlichting.
Adrianne Wensman was strong at the service line as she had six aces. Nicole Canavati contributed four.
Along with Christianson’s big night at the net, which was a personal best, Natalie Watkins had eight kills and Allie Noetzelamn six.
Noetzelman also had 28 assists for the night and Canavati 14.
Shaneé Herd had 15 digs for the night and Natalie Watkins and Jenni Wild contributed 12 and 10, respectively.
“Playoffs are right around the corner and we have a tough schedule from here on out,” said the coach.
Alexandria hosted Willmar last night, Thursday, and will hold the Alexandria Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.
Tuesday will be the final regular season match as the Cardinals host Moorhead.
