Mildred “Bonnie” Lavonne Thompson, 85, died October 5, 2012 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria.

Mildred was born January 21, 1927 in Eden Prairie to Martin and Alice (Albertson) Berg. Following a fire that destroyed their home, Bonnie and her family moved to a farm near Willmar when she was 5 years old. Bonnie graduated from Willmar High School.

On September 25, 1947, Bonnie married Donald Thompson. The couple made their home in Hancock, where they began raising a family. They moved to Alexandria, where Bonnie has been a resident since 1951. Bonnie and Donald were blessed with three boys, Rick, Doug and Chuck. They made their home and business on North Nokomis.

For many years Bonnie was a member of First Lutheran Church and later, Bethesda Lutheran Church. She served with the Ladies Auxiliary at the American Legion and volunteered her time at Knute Nelson.

Bonnie enjoyed knitting and reading. She liked to go camping and spent more than 30 summers at Carlos State Park with her family. She and Don also traveled and made the trip to Hawaii five times. Walking became a favorite pastime of hers in her later years. She loved her flower and rose gardens. Most of all, Bonnie loved her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; son, Chuck Thompson; daughter-in-law, Connie Thompson; grandchild, Krista Stock; and brother, Howard Berg.

Bonnie is survived by her two sons, Rick Thompson and wife, Bonnie, of Ramsey, and Doug Thompson and wife, Julie, of Alexandria; eight grandchildren, Chere Thompson, Nanci Libor, Jessica Katchmark, Matthew Thompson, Kristofer Thompson, Laurie Thompson, Ryan Thompson and Eric Thompson; 13 great-grandchildren, Joey, Allison, Madison, Katelin, Meagan, Justin, Devan, Addison, Emma, Alexis, Connor, Caden and Gabbie; brother, Gene Berg of St. Cloud; sister, Judy Peterson and husband, Rolland, of Bemidji; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, October 9 at Berea Lutheran Church in Alexandria. The Rev. Steve Walswick officiated. Luke Fiskness provided music. Interment followed at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Casket bearers included Joe Libor, Dean Katchmark, Joey Libor, Mike Thompson, Steve Thompson, Dave Thompson and Kent Thompson.

The family would like to thank the caregivers of Edgewood Vista and Knute Nelson for their love, kindness and care toward Bonnie for the last couple of years.
