Friday morning brought bad news for the Alexandria Park Department.
A staff person was doing a regular garbage and restroom check at the Alexandria City Park when he came upon significant damage.
All the partition doors were either knocked off, bent or broken.
Vandals also destroyed a sink, hand towel dispensers and toilet paper dispensers.
The damage estimates are about $4,000 for materials alone, according to Bill Thoennes, park director.
The restrooms, which opened in the spring of 2008, will be closed until further notice, possibly until next spring.
“This is a senseless act of violence and now the park users are the ones that have to suffer,” Thoennes said.
Anyone who knows information about the crime should contact the Alexandria Police Department at (320) 763-6631.
