Don’t look now, but the Cardinal swimming and diving team has climbed its way into a second place tie in the Central Lakes Conference.
Thursday night’s 124-62 win over Sauk Rapids-Rice gave Alexandria its sixth straight win and a tie with Brainerd and Willmar for the runner-up spot in the CLC standings behind undefeated Sartell.
Thursday, the Cards put together impressive performances as they had nine total wins, including five 1-2 finishes and four 1-2-3 finishes.
Megan Bristow had a pair of those wins as she raced to a 2:13.32 in the 20 free and a 59.81 in the 100 free.
Madalyn Winger won the 200 IM in 2:28.51, Kalli Bowser clocked in at 6:09.71 in the 500 free, Kate LeBrasseur won the 100 back in 1:09.35 and Hannah Eklund won the 100 breast in 1:13.72.
All three relays went to the Cardinals as well as Bowser, Eklund, Winger and Beth Burnham finished the 200 medley relay in 2:04.60, Rachel Peterson, Bristow, Jaylen Olson-Rodel and Burnham won the 200 free in 1:49.64, and Winger, LeBrasseur, Bowser and Peterson combined for a 4:09.63 in the 400 free relay.
Five season bests were posted by Alexandria as well as Olson-Rodel, Rachel Evink, Emily Wallerich and Hannah Lindgren all made improvements.
“Rachel Kriese stole the show, bettering her diving point total by 13,” said head coach Mark Storhaug.
Just two dual meets remain in the season for the Redbirds, who will host St. Cloud Tech tomorrow, Thursday, then travel to Brainerd next Tuesday. In between, Alexandria will compete in the True Team meet Saturday at Rocori. From there they will be at Willmar for the CLC championships before beginning section competition.
