Kathleen and Bruce Pohlig of Alexandria are the 2012 recipients of the ACE (A Champion in Education) Award. The ACE Award annually recognizes individuals who support public education through advocacy, partnerships, service or donation of resources. “Champions” are selected for their deeds and accomplishments that have a significant, positive impact on students.
“For more than 25 years, Kathleen and Bruce have served as outstanding role models for young people through their dedication of time, skills and financial support to improve our community,” said Alexandria Board of Education Chair Dean Anderson.
The Pohligs spearheaded a private capital campaign that secured $4 million in donations to reduce the cost of the new high school project to taxpayers, according to Anderson.
The Board of Education will present the award at the annual Hall of Fame luncheon sponsored by the Alexandria Education Foundation. Champions receive an engraved award. To recognize and show appreciation, name plates of honorees will be displayed on a plaque in the district welcome center.
